Less Controversy for Dakota

The movie "Houndog" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival- and though Christian Rights groups have protested the film for a rape scene involving Dakota, most people think that the controversy over the film will die down since the rape scene was filmed only showing Dakota's face. The movie, which also stars Robin Wright Penn, has been 12 years in the making and was almost never made due to funding and scheduling problems. Critics have been impressed thus far with the performances in the film.

An explanation behind the Dreamgirls snub?

LA Times and NY Times articles have speculated as to why the movie Dreamgirls failed to get nominated for Best Picture.

1) Too much marketing turned off voters

2) The voting system for the nominations favors movies that have an intense following, since the academy ranks the order of the 5 films which should be nominated. Dreamgirls had a lot of fans, but few in the academy who passionately supported it.

3) The movie was more popular with women, but 2/3 of the academy are males. This explains why the past Best Actresses have been: Reese Witherspoon, Hillary Swank, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman to name a few.
